Hooded orioles arrive!

The Hooded Orioles arrive for the season. There's one male on the hummingbird feeder here, but I saw two males. The male cardinal on the seed feeder also got caught on camera.

California Poppies - another sign of spring in the desert!

The California poppies that I planted near the street last fall burst into bloom today. These are spring bloomers--not to be confused with the summer blooming Arizona poppies that blossom after the monsoon season begins.

The monsters are back -- already!

The Gila monsters are out and about after a very mild winter and a short hibernation. Their markings provide great camouflage, and if you can't see him, click for the bigger image.
